Flourish & Blotts: How I did it (with links)

I've been asked by a few people how I added music and where I bought many of the materials that I used in the F&B Kit Bash, so I thought I'd give some information and links here.

MUSIC:

I bought the recordable music piece on Amazon and chose one that came with batteries:

Recordable Sound Module, Programmable Sound chip, Push Button Activated, 8M USB, Battery Powered for DIY Voice Audio Stuffed Animal Toys Music Greeting Card Creative Gifts

by icstation

They really weren't kidding in the photo above when they said "Easy to Use" - I followed those directions and it worked like a charm (pun intended)!

Here are the steps I followed:

  • After I received the piece in the mail, I went to Amazon and downloaded the HP theme song from Amazon Music as an MP3 file

  • Saved the song to my computer

  • Plugged the music piece into my computer and opened the file folder for the piece once my computer recognized it

  • Then all I had to do was drag the song into the file folder for the music piece

    • ONE CAVEAT: The song itself was a little more than 5 minutes long and I really did not want it to play that long when someone pressed the button on the Build

    • To remedy this, before I dragged the file into the music piece file folder, I TRIMMED (snipped) it to be shorter (just over 2 minutes)

    • I do not have fancy software to do this - I used a website that is cloud-based, so I did not have to download any software to my computer

      • The Site I used is: Audio Trimmer

        • According to their website: "Audio Trimmer is a simple online tool which lets you trim your audio files on the fly. Choose your file and click Upload to get started! * Uploaded files are stored in a temporary folder and automatically removed from the server within two hours."

  • After I added the song to the folder for the music piece, I simply unplugged it from my computer and then tested it by turning the switch to ON, turning the volume UP and pressing the button...

AND PRESTO! MUSIC!

LINKS to MATERIALS:

Again, I bought most of the extra materials that I used from Amazon, although I did treat myself to one in-person trip to Michaels Arts & Crafts to pick up a few small items.

The best part is that almost everything I purchased included enough material to be used in multiple builds/kit bashes. So now I have a very good "library" of materials for future projects.

Below is a list with links of what I purchased and how I used them:

For the "Glass" Windows:

For the Window Frame and other Framing:

LITKO Plasticard Variety Pack (9)

by LITKO Game Accessories

*This turned out to be one of the BEST buys I made! I used these for various parts throughout the build (for example, to provide the black base/side for the staircase and the landing).

For the Chair:

I had read enough about Sam's Study in my research to know that putting the fabric on the chair that came with the kit was difficult (at best). So, I did not even attempt it! I had read a comment in a FB Group that someone used Self-Adhesive Felt Fabric instead, which worked much better. I decided to go for that option instead of the kit fabric.

I was not sure what color I wanted, which is why I liked the idea of the 15 pieces with assorted colors. Plus, now I have 14 pieces left for other builds!

For the Gold Edging on the Books (and other gold highlighting):

For the Monster Book of Monsters Fur:

Various Sized Wood Sticks:

I used these A LOT! They were a great size to use for larger areas.

A box of 200 sticks was less than $5 USD.

I also used these A LOT! They were a great size to use for the smaller areas (like the stairs).

A box of 1,000 sticks was less than $7 USD.

I also loved these! As you can see, I used them to create the ceiling beams.

These were so good to have and I know I will be using them again in my future builds and kit bashes!

Finally, my favorite GLUE:
